On behalf of a Swiss foundation with activities in Africa, BHP set up and carried out a training course for project evaluators in Angola. Based on a comparative study of different methods of impact measurement, which BHP had previously also carried out on behalf of the foundation, the social return on investment (SROI) methodology was identified as the most suitable approach. Employees of the foundation and relevant partner organisations were subsequently trained in this approach. Following a five-day training course in Luanda, the workshop participants conducted their own SROI analyses of ongoing projects. Regular remote coaching sessions, an online platform with relevant documents, and an on-site follow-up workshop a few weeks after the first training course contributed significantly to the success of this training and its implementation.
