Establishment and integration of sustainability management
Brugger + Partner supported maxon in systematically developing and expanding its sustainability management. As an initial step, we worked together to carry out a materiality assessment. Under our guidance, the process clarified the key social and environmental issues in maxon's business model and initiated a deeper engagement with sustainability. We conducted interviews with external stakeholders and held multiple discussions with the group management on the topics, steps, and outcomes. We supplemented this foundation with an analysis of the company's current state.
The results served two purposes: first, to create a comprehensive roadmap of measures in workshops with internal experts; and second, to enable the development of maxon's first sustainability report in accordance with the GRI Standards (Foundation 2021). As part of the reporting process, Brugger + Partner also supported the development of relevant sustainability metrics across multiple locations, including greenhouse gas accounting. We also acted as a coach for maxon, addressing various internally and externally driven questions related to sustainability management.

2023 sustainability report
Brugger + Partner supported maxon in preparing its 2023 sustainability report, building on the company's inaugural report for the 2022 financial year. Specifically, we reviewed the content with internal experts, drafted the texts, and updated the GRI index. We also prepared the greenhouse gas inventory and provided an overview of other social and environmental key figures.
Development of a climate strategy
Climate adaptation and mitigation are key pillars of maxon's sustainability management. The family-owned company aims to further develop its activities in these areas and manage them strategically. To achieve this, maxon is developing a climate strategy with the support of Brugger + Partner. The work involves advancing greenhouse gas accounting by prioritising Scope 3 categories and supporting the selection of a software solution to facilitate the calculation of key metrics. We are also jointly analysed transition risks and physical climate risks in line with TCFD guidelines and ESRS requirements. This process included scenario analyses and leveraging the climate modelling expertise of CLIMADA Technologies to identify and assess natural hazards. The insights gained from these processes are being used to define climate targets and to review and enhance maxon's existing climate mitigation and adaptation measures.
Development of a climate strategy
Brugger + Partner calculated the environmental and social indicators for maxon's 2024 fiscal year. These indicators are a core element of external sustainability reporting and support the company in managing its material sustainability topics. The greenhouse gas balance was expanded to include additional relevant Scope 3 categories. With the inclusion of the sales units, the indicators now cover all 26 units of the family-owned company for the first time.
We also supported the preparation of the 2024 sustainability report with a comprehensive review and helped update the GRI index.
