Swiss Import Promotion Programme

The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) within the framework of its economic development cooperation. The programme aims to better integrate developing and transition countries into world trade. SIPPO advises and assists business support organisations (BSOs) in 12 partner countries and operates across 6 sectors. Since 2017, the programme has been implemented by Swisscontact in collaboration with Brugger + Partner and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and is now in phase 2 (2021-2025). Brugger + Partner is part of the extended management team and is responsible for designing and organising the SIPPO Forum, which takes place annually or biennially. The SIPPO Import Promotion Forum provides a platform for constructive and ongoing exchanges between BSOs in SIPPO countries and Swiss import networks as well as import promotion organisations, focusing on trade-related topics.
SIPPO Forum 2024
Brugger + Partner, SIPPO's implementation partner, worked together with SIPPO in 2024 to design and organise the Swiss Import Promotion Forum for the seventh time. The forum connects business support organisations from SIPPO countries with importer networks operating in SIPPO sectors, procurement professionals, category managers from major retailers, and industry experts. This year's event in Lausanne welcomed over 50 BSO representatives from 12 SIPPO countries among more than 130 participants. The keynote speeches, panel discussions, and breakout sessions addressed two key questions: How can the increasing demands for sustainable production and trade be met in the face of new and stricter regulations in the EU and Switzerland? What opportunities does this present for exporters? And: How can digitalisation support this focus on sustainability? The BSO representatives continued their dialogues with other forum participants during company visits on the following day.
